Nickel Plate Railroad 765An image of the Nickel Plate 765 steam train lit by artificial lighting. This image was taken by Bryan Akers, a photographer in Ohio.Annually, a steam train is brought to Cleveland for the "Steam in the Valley" event put on by the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. For the past five years, the featured train has been the Nickel Plate #765 locomotive, brought in by the Fort Wayne Historical Society. While I have captured some amazing images of this beast over the years, I had never quite gotten anything like this. Arriving early at the train yard, I noticed a light-wielding volunteer moving quickly around the engine, prepping for the day's excursions. It was an interesting light show, so I took a long exposure which turned out better than I had hoped. The autumn fog that develops in the valley, coupled with the steam from the train and extra lighting created an image that is dreamy and a bit creepy. A winner in my book.
